PERBEDAAN TAPESTRI CORAK RATA, SOUMAK, DAN GIORDES PADA HASIL JADI HIASAN DINDING MOTIF KUPU-KUPU

Abstract

Tapestry is one of the textile craft products made using weaving techniques with various pattern variations. This study aims to determine the final results, measure the best weaving pattern, and identify the differences in the final results of butterfly motif wall hangings made using plain weave, soumak, and Ghiordes weave patterns individually without any combination of techniques. This research employed an experimental method by producing three tapestry products, each using one weaving pattern technique with the same design, materials, size, and colors. The research instrument was validated by three fashion education experts, obtaining a feasibility percentage of 92.8% (Very Valid category) and an inter-rater reliability of α = 0.670 (high category). Data were collected through observation by 43 observers using an observation sheet with a 1–5 scale on four aspects: shape and size consistency, color combination, weaving technique suitability, and tapestry neatness. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test results indicated that the data were not normally distributed, so the Kruskal-Wallis test was used. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed a Chi-Square value of 18.867 with Asymp. Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05, meaning Ha was accepted, indicating a significant difference among the three patterns. The Mann-Whitney Post Hoc test with Bonferroni correction showed that the plain weave pattern differed significantly from both soumak and Ghiordes, while soumak and Ghiordes did not differ significantly from each other. Based on the highest mean rank (83.67), the plain weave pattern produced the best tapestry, followed by soumak (62.09) and Ghiordes (49.23).
