Abstract

Competitive fashion design requires uniqueness, originality, and historical meaning in every creation. The use of Renaissance clothing as a source of inspiration serves as a strategy to produce aesthetic and conceptual fashion works. This study aims to describe the ability of Fashion Design students at Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya to create Ready to Wear designs inspired by Renaissance fashion. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach with 14 students from the 2024 cohort, determined through total sampling. The research instrument consisted of a design test assessed on four aspects: fluency, originality, flexibility, and elaboration, which had been validated by an expert lecturer. Data were analyzed using percentage through descriptive quantitative analysis. The results indicated that the students’ ability to design Ready to Wear fashion inspired by Renaissance clothing was in the “very good” category, with a percentage of 71.43%. These findings highlight the importance of integrating fashion history into design learning, strengthening students’ creative skills, and serving as a basis for developing culture-based curricula
