Abstract

This research was motivated by the phenomenon of the disparity in sewing learning motivation between students from high-income and low-income families at SMKN 1 Bojonegoro. Students with financial limitations tend to be passive, delay assignments, and avoid experimentation due to the cost constraints of practical materials. This study aims to identify the economic level of parents and students' sewing learning motivation, as well as to analyze the correlation between parents' economic level (based on income) and students' sewing learning motivation. A quantitative correlational approach was employed with a population of 93 students from grades X, XI, and XII of Fashion Design and Production. The sample was determined using purposive sampling, consisting of 33 grade X students. Data collection utilized questionnaires and was analyzed using Spearman's correlation through SPSS 27. The normality test results showed that the economic variable data were not normally distributed, with a significance value (Sig.) of 0.007 < 0.05, making Spearman's correlation test the appropriate choice. The hypothesis test results on the strength of the relationship yielded a value of r_s = 0.114 with a significance of 0.529. Thus, the null hypothesis (H0) is accepted, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. The conclusion of this study is that there is no significant correlation between parents' economic level and students' sewing learning motivation. These findings indicate that sewing learning motivation is influenced by other factors such as teachers' teaching methods, peer environment, and students' intrinsic interest, rather than solely by parents' financial conditions.
